隨著JAGUAR全新開發的豪華轎車XE問市擬定，原廠也開始著手其它車系的更新作業。其中在2007年法蘭克福車展問市的XF，當時JAGUAR將此車設定為「中型豪華房車」，用來取代過往的S-Type，而現在XE登場之後XF未來的定位就會更上一階，因此JAGUAR下一款全新車就會先行著手替換XF。
