伊拉克政府軍28日啟動衝突發生至今最大規模的反擊攻勢，企圖奪回北方大城提克里特。士兵與坦克及直升機攻擊遜尼派武裝份子。

有關政府軍攻擊進展如何報導分歧。居民說至28日晚上為止武裝份子仍然占領提克里特；政府官員則說，軍隊抵達提克里特外圍，甚至有官員說，軍隊已經開進該市市中心。
